OUGD404 Brief 2 - Task 1 What is a Book?

What is a book?

(taught lesson)

We got in groups in this session and were asked several questions
to answer.

What is a book?
A book can be anything arguably, it can be a..

Collection of pages
- What are pages?? A context that is used to communicate
so in response to a collection of pages it does not necessarily need to
be a page.

This is because a book is a personal interpretation.

Articulation
- to pass on information
-putting something in a book
-words and how it is written

Collection of visual stimuli
-It doesn't necessarily need to be words
what is a basic form of collection?
-A group - A collection of something
It could be a website etc.

This question really made me think about the actual term book and what
it means to be a book does it need to be physical to be a book? I always
assumed so but it is apparent a book doesn't need to be physical to exsist
this is because the term book is a collection and a collection can be anything.

What is the purpose of a book?

  • Inform
  • Educate
  • Entertain
  • Inspire
  • Communicate
  • To convince
  • To evolve
  • To create controversy
  • Illusion of intelligence
  • The truth
  • To escape
  • To exsist forever there isn way of it not existing even if it is removed,
someone somewhere will remember it.
A book can have many purposes it is unto both the author and reader
to determine what exact purpose they have.

How is a collection organised?

  • Paragraphs
  • Chronological order
  • Sequence
  • To tell a story
  • Choice
  • Thermatically
it really is up to the person who writes or designs the book to order
and organise a book there a several ways of organising books for
example...

Another more literally sense of how you can organise a book..

  • Stitching
  • folded
  • glued
  • bound
  • stapled
  • weld
  • treasury tags
  • zip ties/acro binding clips
  • paper clips
  • spiral bound
A book can be bound creatively as well as organised.
