OUGD503 Brief 1, John Lewis - Game App Designs

There are many mobile apps nowadays and almost anyone can make them, some of the most popular games follow a sequence with the use of levels and difficulty rating, many games can range from stimulating to story based - many now cater for everyones tastes and needs in the market. Some of the  most popular games out there currently are:

Angry birds has become extremely popular with all ages, the game is simple and easy to follow but with some degree of difficulty when progressed. To progress in this game you must use a catapult to hit all the pigs, and any other valuable objects such as coins & jewels. This game is usually free unless a special addition the good way of making an app free can intice users to buy in app purchases such as extra amo or extra time etc. Once the person becomes fully engaged they continue to play and purchase in the app.

Much like candy crush, it uses a similar technique to entice more customers and more importantly users, the game allows you to invite other people to the game and in return you benefit, by doing this it reminds and makes others aware about the game - this is a clever tactic to improve games stats and sales. Candy crush is a simple bejewelled style game, but can require quick thinking as this game is usually timed or counted by a limited amount of moves these sort of games can become addictive meaning users often continue playing.

Although I have only mentioned 2 games there are many other games that use similar techniques such as; Temple run, Tetris, clash of the clans, minecraft, Bejewelled blitz, plants vs zombies and much much more.

Many games use the same ploys and tactics to create a bond and contiuation of use such as;

1. Incentives - something for free?

2. Making you wait for lives (only applicable to certain games)

3. Social Media links

4. Purchasing Options

5. Loss Aversion - Keep failing no problem buy more

6. Progress - when a person is led to believe they are making progress in the game
