OUGD502 Brief 1, InformARTive Development

From my initial ideas and feedback, I developed my designs
I started out simply and began to work my way up, adding
detail and colour. I have experimented with layout text and
formatting.

OUGD503 Brief 1, informARTive Research pt3

Moms demand action campaign

This is a strong and serious campaign into gun crime used against
children in American. Their posters are bold, daring and play on
the mind of the viewer. These campaign posters are really effective
and informative it allows the viewer to ask a question and be shocked
by the answer.

This questions American's gun law and society, it trys to
show just how silly it is guns are allowed with the deaths of many
children on the increase this campaign strongly relevant.

They have used such techniques;
Sympathy
Fear
Mind playing
Curiosity
And of Course Shock tactics

Hannah Fearn from the Guardian has expanded on the use of shock
tactics in charity campaigns.

OUGD503 Brief 1, informARTive Research pt2

This site is to promote recycling to young children to do this it
has used a friendly interface and characters to appeal to the
imagination of a child. It creates and advertises fun and easy
ways to recycle such as games and art.

The overall appearance of the site is child friendly and fun loving.
This site is highly interactive and engaging which is really important
to children as they have a small attention span so the more for them
to engage with the more they learn. It includes games and video clips
on almost every page this helps break up the information on the page
for the child, I believe the text that is there is mainly for an adults
entrainment to read to the child.

OUGD503 Brief 1, InformARTive research

Hattie Stewart

Hattie is a illustrator who adds her personal style and doodles
to proclaimed pieces such as magazine covers of big names
such as 'Vogue'

Stewarts style is bold, creative and in your face but in a good
way in the sense it stands out and it makes you want to look.
I really want my poster to stand out and inspire others, like
Stewart inspires me. Her pieces are bright and colourful when
designing for informative I want it to pop off the page and
excentuate the notion of colour.

OUGD502 Brief 1, Responsive - InformARTive Initial Ideas

These are some of my initial ideas and sketches as you can see I have taken clear influence from recycling and typography. My favourite idea is adding detail to the static sculptures in a hattie stewart way but with my personality, I showed my ideas to peers and even sketched how I would pursue this, this way of approaching the info graphic targets the main aims of the brief showing positivity towards recycling.

OUGD503 Brief 1, Responsive - InformARTive: Ideas/Development

To get started I focused on one image to work with which I
can then use as basis to create a consistent campaign. My first
idea is inspired by the catalyst of nature and how by recycling
we expand life - giving back to our economy and wildlife, I
want my design to be heavily influenced by the posativity of
recycling.

OUGD503 Brief 1, Responsive - InformARTive

The Brief

Did you know that College stops 98.9% of our trash going to landfill?
Most of our rubbish is recycled, reused or turned in Refuse Derived Fuel!
How great is that?

Our College works really hard to be at the forefront of sustainability and
we want to shout about it!

Back in September we held an open workshop for students, where they
could come and create 3D representations of sustainability statistics from
around the College. Students were given a statistic and a selection of
recycled materials to create something amazing.

We want you to create a visually exciting infographic using one of these
statistics. You are welcome to use the provided photographs of the 3D
representations in your infographic, or just use that as a point of inspiration.

We have attached the statistics as well as images that you can use for your
infographic.

What you need to do:
Chose a statistic from the files linked below
Look at the accompanying images linked below
Create 1 infographic on a chosen statistic
Send as a JPG to student.union@leeds-art.ac.uk
Deadline – December 14th 2015

The chosen designer will be paid £200 to create a campaign to be used
around college as well as online to promote sustainability here at Leeds
College of Art.

If you have any questions, get in touch at student.union@leeds-art.ac.uk

Good Luck!

OUGD503 Brief 1, Clockwork Orange - Final & Submission

My idea was directly taken from the book - I wished to show clockwork oranges key descriptive features without giving away the story, for this reason I chose to focus on Alex - this is the main character, he has a very unique and distinctive look because of this I chose to use his description as my cover idea. After analysing the brief thoroughly It needed to be purely and heavily typographic based. My original ideas and designs relied on illustrative outcomes, although some of my designs where based around text this is how I developed my cover through feedback and research by learning how to manipulate text my final outcome has explored typography and punctuation which successfully creates an image of Alex's distinctive description.

OUGD503 Brief 1, Clockwork Orange - Further Development

From the  last crit I really decided to take off with my idea and develop my typographic based cover further out of the many designs I toyed with these are my favourites although some of these are stronger than others I feel my design is finally getting well on its way. I wanted to show key parts of the book such as Alex's distinctive outfit.

OUGD503 Brief 1, Clockwork Orange - Typographic Book Covers

To help gain some information on creating purely iconic and typographic covers I looked into some book cover outcomes which had been done before, to see what and how the designers have approached designing their covers.

http://www.creativebloq.com/typography/10-great-uses-typography-book-covers-10134890

The layout and use of this letterpress type is eye catching and fundamentally interesting,
the variations in sizes and colours not only add texture but character, strongly linking to
the book 'No country for old men' The colour of the type connotes to aged and weathering.

The use of black and white typography on this cover is a clever adaptation of
creating light in dark places directly connecting the books title, the flow of the
text also suggest freedom of light.

This classic cover by penguin is typeset really well, by having the text flow into the illustration
it only adds to the image rather than distracting and deterring away. Another great use on this
cover is the placement of the penguin logo! in the 007 well played and well thought out and
overall a beautiful timeless cover.
