OUGD503 Brief 2, Collaborative Practice - Presentation Boards

Finally our designs and presentation boards are ready for submission, me and cameron worked on these together taking it in turns to write for each slide cameron wrote for the front of the packaging and posters, I wrote for the back of the packaging, the app and I also drew a guide on how to use the packaging - for the magnets slide we both wrote together. We chose to write about most slides separately because we had more knowledge on how it was designed. We have gone for a really clean and simple spread which will make it easy and thorough for the judges to follow. We have also tried to write in 3rd person but more professionally so that we are describing less and telling more. For example using key words in the brief to highlight our success' and also to show we have clearly targeted and exceeded what was asked.

As the group were away for easter I had to submit the presentation boards and work, below is what I believe to be true about our work and practice, I then showed this to the group before submitting.

OUGD504 Brief 2, Collaborative Practice - Posters

After creating the app we decided in a group that we need something to promote the new products to do this we discussed what we could do to advertise the fish, we came up with the idea of a zine, posters, recipe cards and points of sales.  The most realistic idea was between the recipe cards & posters, this was because the packaging took longer than we had planned out on our time scale. If we had managed our time a little better or less sick days then we could of considered a point of sale but I guess you cant predict the future.

These posters were designed by Cameron with my input, cameron took the packaging design and applied the colours & brusho to the posters, alongside that we thought to connect our magnets with our packaging so we could use our tag lines to create a connection. We created a set of 3 posters because we have designed for 3 different products not only that but to show that our designs could be used on almost every saucy fish product.

OUGD503 Brief 2, Collaborative Practice - Packaging Development

Because of choosing a colour scheme early on before even designing this made it incredibly easy to work to a brief, As you can see from some of the screen shots a lot of placement and movement was necessary to get the design right. The packing initially became a struggle, this was because non of us had really tackled packaging and didn't know exactly what to place on our product - through our research we soon overcame this and began to write notes on exactly what was needed to make our packing both functional and sophisticated.

The packing really was a group effort rather than one persons input, The front of the packaging started off with us all creating ideas, and developing them. We all showed our ideas and then picked a design to with and improve. Out of all our designs we felt Camerons had hit the nail on the head and decided to take forward his cover idea which was to use the brusho to create the transparency colours through the saucy fish logo, this was a really good idea! We felt this added both character and passion to our design which before we were lacking. Although Camerons design was a start initially it was too crowded with our 3 heads together we decided to make the front as simple and uncomplicated as possible this way the fish would be the winner - just like on the brief. To keep our design simple we named our fish on the side of the packaging and clearly stating the logo this meant our fish could be still readible when stacked! and also bold.

I then began to work on the reverse of the packing, with the help of the group we came up with a list of necessities such as a barcode, nutritional information (which is a legal requirement), Ingredients, suggestions and some info about where the fish is from. When we had all our information I worked on placing our designs, the problem with this was we had a lot to say and not a lot of space to do it. I used a simple grid I had created to make it neat and flowing. Without this I think it could of easily become messy and overcomplicated.

Additionally to the stuff highlighted in the group I had realised that there was nothing here that shouted young other than the colour scheme - to rectify this I came up with the idea of creating an app which could be downloaded via the packaging by doing this it meant it the packaging not only looked good to a younger audience but could be used by a younger audience.  By linking the packaging with an app it added more body to a campaign that could be actually used by saucy fish.

The final Packaging -

Acetate covers

Packaging sleeves

Additionally for the packaging to work the fish will be sealed into an oven safe plastic tray - all of which recyclable through all our research we realised that it was possible for the whole thing to be recycled. The tray will be very similar that is already on the  market but specifically with our recyclable plastics it will also fit our packaging so would need to be specially made.

OUGD503 John Lewis - Voucher Development & Final

Here are some of my initial sketches, I have experimented with a various of shapes, a lot of the shapes are interesting I love the leaf but my peers felt this was too OTT and would take away from the campaign, they said that people want something compact and easy to fit in either their pocket or wallet, the best option for this is rectangular.

Keeping in theme with my other materials, app & window I wanted to keep my designs minimal and consistant so that it does take away from the actual products. I have included the tagline/concept in the voucher so it is clear, I have also added necessary things such as barcodes for staff and important bits like tear off codes also for staff - and of course the most important bit what money you will receive off and where. The idea is to keep playing the game and receive multiple different vouchers this is the paper voucher which will be transferable to the app swell so that online users are not excluded, as technology is the future.

OUGD503 Brief 2, Collaborative Practice - Photo shoot

After printing and setting up our packaging we as a group set up some camera kit to take some professional photos worthy of a competition, Cameron took the images, me and amy were in charge of lighting and product placements. The packaging photos took really well, but it was hard to figure out the right position to take photos for the fish magnets. Originally we wished to take the photos of the magnets in context this wasn't possible because non of us had access to clean magnetic surface like a fridge, this was slightly disappointing as I felt this would excentuate the design.

A lot of our photos needed to be edited, mainly this was because of an error I had made when printing the designs, I forgot to remove the white cutter this meant there was white edges on corners this fortunately was easily corrected through photoshop.

After looking and editing through our photos we picked a small selection of what we could use for the presentation, we picked around ten high quality images that could and will be used. The main reason for the images we chose was because of the proffessional appearance and the way in which it highlights specific areas needed for the explanation of our products/designs.
