OUGD503 Brief 1, John Lewis - Primary Research

So this afternoon I decided to visit the John Lewis at Vangarde in York, this is the closest John Lewis I have access to. On my trip I took a picture of their current window installation to see exactly what they have done present and past, I also looked inside the store to see if there were any key interactions throughout.

The current window display is peaking towards spring the theme is renewall or 're:new_all' as they like to refer this is really relevant to the theme of spring and the beginning of new life the theme suggests and persuades consumers to replace their old products and clothing with infact brand new materials. The window in York displays many household items from a wide range, when walking into the store you will see links to the display throughout every floor for even clothes and technology.

There are many installations around the store espicailly so in the kids section on the ceiling are paper folded origami ranging from a see of cranes, paper planes and even birds. The tactile approach appeals to a young audience and improves the childs overall shopping experience, one factor in this section which is clever placement is the lego statue located in front of the childs changing rooms, as we can all remember trying on clothes to keep our parents happy was not what we wanted to be doing the use of placement here makes the whole experience more enticing and fun. Like the kids section many other sections follow a similar consistency for example the lighting section a large light display is spread across the ceiling creating a beautiful piece of art.

Although at this stage only looking at John Lewis I believe I would benefit from looking at other stores such as Harvey Nichols and The Leeds Trintiy centre to view some creative and immersive window designs. I am hoping by doing this I will incur some inspiration from my primary research visits.
